What causes spider veins?
Many everyday factors contribute to the development of spider veins which are red to purple in color and reticular veins which are blue in color. Some of the common causes are heredity, pregnancy, prolonged standing, and minor traumas. Dr. Reger treats these samll veins by injecting an FDA approved sclerosing solution into the vein, causing it to shrink and fade from the surface of the skin as it is reabsorbed by the body. Having this treatment can also reduce the symptoms that are commonly associated with spider veins, including itching, burning, cramping and aching.
What are varicose veins?
Varicose veins are usually larger buldging veins found in the legs due mostly to a combination of heredity, pregnancy, prolonged standing, traumas, and faulty valves in the veins. These twisted bulging leg veins can cause discomfort and embarrassment. As blood returns through the veins to your heart, valves in the larger veins act to allow one way flow uphill towards the heart. If these valves are not working properly, blood accumulates in the veins, causing them to enlarge and bulge out especially towards the end of the day.

If you have varicose veins, don’t think you’re alone. In fact, tens of millions of people – up to 40% of women and 25% of men suffer from this condition. Other commonly treated veins are located on the face, hands and chest.
